Jane Austen References

Manydown was the home of the Biggs-Wither family, situated near Wootton St Lawrence, a mile from Wortling and approximately 6 miles from Steventon. It was demolished in 1965. it was while staying there in December 1802 that Jane Austen first accepted and then refused an offer of marriage from Harris Bigg-Wither
