The cathedral is one of the most interesting buildings in England, whether the antiquity of its foundation be considered or the characters of the persons who have acted their parts in it. Among these are the prelates Wykeham, Waynfleet, Fox and cardinal Beaufort whose shrines are works of great beauty and magnificence. The length of the cathedral is 545 feet. The see is one of the richest in the kingdom.
